Unfortunately, the vast majority of these well-intentioned bloggers will never earn any real money online and it is not for a lack of trying. You may be in this situation! If so, keep reading.

Popular blogging guides like Blogging To The Bank, Bloggers PayBack, Bloggers Paycheck and a host of other less well known tools are bought by marketers in the hope that they will shed the light on how to blog for profits.

I discovered nearly two years ago the real secret to earning money with blogs. In fact, what set me on the right path was Rob Benwells original ebook Blogging To The Bank.

You see, the advice that most of these blogging guides give is sound, but the real challenge is putting all the pieces together. How you monetize is really secondary.

There are 3 things you need to make money blogging:

1. Targeted Readers. These are people who visit your blog because your provide content that solves there problem. Whatever niche you are in, remember find the problem and then provide solutions.
2. Relevant Content. Your posts should be related to your niche; that is if you want to make money. It does not matter if it is Google Adsense, Clickbank Affiliate Products, CPA – CJ, Neverblue Ads or your own product. Your content has to relate to your market/niche. If you are in the weight loss niche, posting about dog training is not going to be of real interest to your readers.
3. Traffic. Traffic is the life blood of your blog. Without it, your blog is dead. The simple fact is that three are inter-related. Good content generates Traffic by attracting visitors . More visitors increase your metrics in Alexa and Google and boost your SERP (Search Engine Rank Position). A higher SERP gets you more visitors.

As you can see, failing to excel at any one of these three can mean disaster for your blog.

But at the core of everything is CONTENT. Content is king! It’s the engine that drives your blog.

Their trademark names are ubiquitous. Where can you go (literally in the world) and not find a Walmart or MacDonalds? They are everywhere with some locations staying open 24 hours a day.

Ever wondered why the local pharmacist or neighborhood grocer went out of business? They could not compete with the scale of these marketing giants. Again, it’s all a matter of scale.

Of course, launching a blog takes small effort. It is when you really have to add content to your blog that requires effort. For starters, if you plot to blog, you are going to have to provide your readership with expectations. In particular, you need to be consistent with your blogging. Let your readers know when to expect new blog posts by blogging on specific days of the week. While some people opt to add new entries to their blog daily, or even multiple times a day, this is not necessary. If you plot to blog once a week, make sure that you do so on the same day each week. The same holds right if you plot to blog more frequently, such as three days per week. Also, you should give your readers the opportunity to subscribe to your RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feed. Doing this will say readers via email each time you post new content to your blog. You may have visited a blog and seen the orange and white symbol without even knowing what it was. This is the RSS feed for that particular website. The nice thing about including this feed on your blog, is that you can also submit it to what is known as an RSS aggregator. An RSS aggregator allows individuals who are interested in subject matter which you blog covers to receive your, as well as other related blog posts.

Here is the point where I really need you to pay attention because it is directly related to your ability to earn money online. Specifically, you come up with a way to obtain the email addresses of your visitors. I have determined that the best way to do this, is to offer something of value to your readers at no cost. While I know that you are constantly adding valuable content to your blog, this is not enough. You must provide something more, such as an eBook, software, an informative online course, or whatever else of value that will give your visitors the incentive to provide you with their email address through what is known as an opt-in form, so that you can deliver their free product. Once you have a list of email addresses from readers in your niche market, you have a customer base to which you can market products in the future. This is what is know as building your list, and is how marketers have made a fortune online.

It really is not too hard to earn money online with a blog. Just realize that it takes time and it takes effort. You will not achieve success overnight. With that being said, if you are willing to place in the time and effort, you will place yourself in a position to earn money online for years to come.
